The real family photos

I find it interesting that you never see 'real' family photos. The family photos that you always see are the 'perfect, happy, everybody is looking at the camera' type photos. Our photographer sent us her favorites, which are here. I received the full CD of portraits today. Well, if you are wondering what a typical day for us includes, just look at the photos below. These better capture 'who we are' than the perfect ones. I thought they were worth sharing!

Family Photos

Last week we had family photos taken by a friend of a friend while we were in Colorado (Thanks Jaime). We try to do this at least once a year or so - especially when my Grandma is in town (four generations!). Because we were in an open space, near a park, Matthew had his mind set on looking for puppies. He missed many shots - the ones you do see him in, he had a mouth full of gummy bears as a bribe. Thankfully, we did get some nice momentos....

Four years ago you changed our world in an instant. We should have known you would be a feisty one!

Every day you challenges us like we have never been challenged before - you are teaching us patience, love, grace, and more patience. You are a strong, beautiful, caring, determined little girl who we have been blessed to have in our hearts and to love so dearly.

May you have many more birthdays and may we continue to learn and grow from one another.

Summer Getaway

We were a little spoiled this weekend.

We woke up to this:


We spent the weekend eating,


playing in the water,


trying to get out of the life preserver,



jumping on the trampoline,


eating some more,


riding in the boat,


trying not to be blown away,


trying to like the boat (Matthew, not me),



trying to get comfortable in the boat,


learning to drive a boat,


enjoying time together,


learning how to fish,


catching fish,


thinking worms are gross,


making (and eating) ice cream,


spending time outside,


being silly,
having girl time,


being just plain cute,


and waking up to this. Again.


Yes, we were spoiled this weekend.
